The Gibson Moderne, In 1957 Gibson President Ted McCarty filed three designs with the United States Patent Office named “Flying V,” “Futura”, and “Moderne.” However the Moderne was not put into production and a debate still rages over whether or not any were created at that time. They were reissued by Gibson in 1982 at the NAMM show in Atlanta as part of the “Heritage Series” Because of their very limited production and forward design, Gibson Modernes are highly sought by collectors!

The Mighty G-4 through my Electrosonic Fireball custom. Mmmm mmm crunchy crunch. This is an amazing guitar through an amazing amp. Tone and drive completely depend on attack. A very dynamic and transparent combination. Every string nuance is heard clearly, including mistakes (ahem). I couldn’t help but add some echo. Apologies for vid quality. These days I know! Time for an HD cam.

The Zachary G-4 put through some of the paces. Many many tones here and only half on this vid. The guitar has “Jimmy Page” wiring for a total of 12 settings (and one mystery setting…but only on super high gain). Switching goes: Neck Bridge Both Both out of phase Both series Both out of phase/ series All those settings for either single coil or humbucker for a total of twelve. Vid starts in sc neck. sc bridge 1:00 sc both 2:24 sc neck 4:36 hb series 6:20 (just a taste) hb bridge 6:47 hb both 8:58 Sound suffers a little. A little bright at times. I’m still playing with mic placements. Plus I’ll have to figure out how to upload bigger sound files ’cause this is MP3. Played through a mid 70′s Super Reverb which, as you probably know, is a very bright amp. All reverb and some trem is from the amp. Some delay in places added later. I will do another vid of the other switchings before I get to the crunchy stuff.
